Todae's New Sydney Store!!
Friday, May 16, 2008 at 12:30PM Unbeknownst to many of our customers and clients, the Todae team has been busy over the last few months, hatching the second of our offspring – the brand new Todae Store at Bondi Junction Westfield!
This project has posed many new challenges that have finally been met, with the store being open to the public just one week ago. One of the most important and necessary challenges for us was to be mindful of our company ethos of sustainability throughout the design phase. With this tying the concept of the store together, the selection of materials has been very specific. In our new store you will find used the following to ensure the least environmental impact:
Merchandising plinths made from 100 year old recycled timber whose former purpose was office furniture at the old Maritime Service Board in the Rocks.
We has used several parts of the existing fit out, preventing this from going straight to landfill.
The paints used are free of harmful VOC’s and chemicals. The floorboards are bamboo, one of the most sustainable, natural building materials.
The lighting throughout the store is highly efficient LED and compact fluorescent lighting, meaning the store is only using 20% of the power and normal retail store would use.
The energy required to power the store is being produced by our very own solar system, sitting on Westfield tower roof! This is the first solar system to be found on any Westfield shopping centre in the world.
I would like to thank the whole Todae team....Whilst carrying on with business as usual, the entire Todae team has been extremely supportive of this project with some ideas and suggestions.
We eagerly await the official launch party where renowned environmental scientist and Australian of the Year Tim Flannery will officially open the store.
Feel free to come visit us and see the new Bondi Junction Store:

So alarmist of the year timmy opens a todae store - like his speeches, was he well paid for that as well ?
And perhaps someone could have asked the details of his plan to pump sulfur into the atmosphere (you know, the stuff acid rain is composed of ?) to try to 'reduce the effect of the sun' - trouble is,even though he solidly supports it, even he admits he doesn't know what side effects it may have - but at least he does know it will change the colour of the sky.
I suggest todae stores have taken a credibility hit after this 'guest' opened one of them.
I also wonder about the sponsorship of the todae launch by Krinklewood Wines. Has the todae team seen the huge ad by the owner of Krinklewood advertising huge 4 wheel drives by Toyota?
Sorry guys - you can't have it both ways: Krinklewood can't make out that it has a green clean image with organic wines and then advertise petrol guzzling monsters. And todae can't allow Krinklewood to be part of their sponsorship team.
What about usingnTamburlaine Wines or Macquariedale Biodynamic Wines in the Hunter Valley?
Would be interested to see the todae team's reply....
Thanks for your comments Allan and Alison.
In response to your comments Allan: Tim Flannery was selected to open the Todae Bondi Junction store as he is a highly respected figure in the environmental space and has played a massive part in creating mainstream awareness of the eco issues that we too are trying to bring to the mainstream. We wanted an inspirational eco warrior that would resonate with the public to open our store and we are thrilled that Tim was able to be there. He made a fantastic, inspirational speech on the night which was extremely well received by all of our guests – customers, VIPs, friends of Todae and media. As for the sulphur issue – this is news to us so we will stay tuned for more info.
As for the Krinklewood Wines issue – sponsors were selected based on finding the best available organic food and wine that was kind to the earth in its production. Krinkelwood was chosen for being a fantastic biodynamic winery, however this does not mean that we were privy to their every marketing and advertising execution. So we were not aware of the Four Wheel drive advertising campaign of which you speak. The Todae blog is all about community involvement and information sharing to not only educate our visitors but also to educate ourselves so we thank you for your comments and for keeping us in the loop!

I'm looking forward to visiting the store. Purchasing environmentally friendly gifts for my family and friends is particularly important to me this year. I remember thinking along these lines last year but there was very little available.
